A much reduced campsite that was home for the last week. Time to relax after too much "excitement" the night before.
As you can see, it's not all work. Second to last day
at Mason Bay. A few bits of driftwood, recycled nails, ropes and a
four-wheeler - it's amazing how much fun you can have at 35 km/hr on
the beach.
More fun with a four-wheeler and an oar. Talk about camp fever .......

Even as we were leaving Mason Bay the fun was not over yet. Yes! A helicopter ride! The first for Tim and I. We rode the four-wheeler on to the trailer, lashed it down and tied both of them to the helicopter. What a ride!
Grins at the prospect of a helicopter ride followed
by a hot shower and a shave! At least for Tim and I. Not sure about
Amanda :-)
(Top) Aerial view of The Gutter.
(Bottom) Approaching Half Moon Bay. Wow! Close to
civilisation.
(Left) Getting closer....
(Right) Finally landing on the airstrip at Oban, Half Moon Bay.
A half hour long hot shower and a shave sure did wonders after 3 weeks without. Enough to make anyone want to dance down the street! And to the pub we went!
Regretfully it was time to leave Rakiura. A ferry
ride back to Mainland.
(Top) Leaving the ferry terminal, Oban, Half Moon
Bay, Rakiura. Damn tourist couldn't use a bloody camera. Well, who
wants to see our mugs anyway - at least beautiful Rakiura was in
focus.
(Bottom) Amanda and I with a last view of Half Moon Bay.
Despite everything we went through, the unsettling
night, the howling wind, the sandblasting and the kiwi rogering, we
certainly missed Rakiura.

times, it was the worst of times...we live for the memories"
Again, thank you guys, for the memories....

For those of you who haven't experienced it - this is one of the reasons why we missed Mason Bay and Rakiura,
